# Who can check a website or app quote for you, and what it costs

The ways to get a website or software quote checked before you sign, from a free mentor to a paid review, each priced on its seller's own page on 2026-10-19. Mackenzie Bowes is one row, and the page says where the others win.

You have two or three quotes for a website or an app, and they're far apart. One might be US$4,000 and another US$15,000. Before you sign, you can have someone check them. That might be a free volunteer mentor, a freelancer by the hour, or an advisor who reviews proposals. Every option below was read on the seller's own page on 2026-10-19, with a link so you can check it.

## What a second opinion costs, as of 2026-10-19

| # | Option | Kind | Published price | What you get | Who does the work |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | SCORE [1] | Free mentoring | Free | A volunteer mentor for small business owners | A mentor advises; you decide |
| 2 | Upwork consultant [2] | Hired person | US$10, $15 and $75 an hour (the first 3 listed) | Hourly advice; these are general website and startup consultants | A freelancer |
| 3 | Pannu Advisory, Software Proposal Review [3] | Independent advisor | Not published; request a review, then book a consultation | A cold read of a proposal for hidden scope, risk and whether the number is fair | The advisor |
| 4 | Mackenzie Bowes, quote review [4] | Solo developer | US$250 fixed, up to 3 quotes | A written verdict in 2 working days: whether the scopes match, what's missing, a fair price range and what to counter with | Mackenzie |

Of the quote-review services we found, Mackenzie's is the only one that publishes its price.

## Which one is for you

1. **You'd like to check the quotes yourself: start with [our five checks](/posts/two-quotes-for-a-website-or-app).** The post shows how to put two quotes on the same footing, with a prompt you can give your own AI assistant along with both quotes. It's free.
2. **You'd like someone to talk it through with, and you're not in a hurry: row 1.** A SCORE mentor costs nothing, and you get an experienced person who isn't selling you a website.
3. **You'd like a few hours of hands-on help: row 2.** At US$10 to $75 an hour, the price of row 4 buys between 3 and 25 hours.
4. **The proposal is large and the risk is high: row 3.** An independent advisor who reads software proposals is the closest match to a full review. Ask for the price on the call.
5. **You want a written answer in 2 days at a known price: row 4.**

## Where the others beat Mackenzie

1. **On price.** A SCORE mentor is free, and so is our own checklist.
2. **On time spent together.** A mentor or an hourly consultant can sit with you over several meetings. Mackenzie's review is a written verdict.
3. **On large software contracts.** Pannu Advisory reads software proposals for the scope they hide and the risks they leave out of the price. It's built for bigger contracts than a small business website.

## What the quote review is

Mackenzie reads up to 3 quotes for US$250. In 2 working days you get a written verdict covering four things:

1. Whether the quotes are pricing the same job.
2. What's missing, such as hosting, a year of fixes, or who owns the code.
3. A fair price range.
4. What to counter with.

The usual reason two quotes differ is that they price different jobs. One includes hosting and a year of fixes, and the other leaves both out. [The two-quotes post](/posts/two-quotes-for-a-website-or-app) shows how to spot that yourself.

## How we collected this

On 2026-10-19 we read each seller's own page. We recorded the price, who does the work and what the buyer has to do, with the URL and the date. We searched for services that review website and software quotes. The one we found, Pannu Advisory, publishes no price. Upwork has thousands of consultants. Row 2 is the first three with an hourly rate in a search for "website consultant", and none of them is a quote-review specialist. Mackenzie's row comes from Mackenzie. No one paid to be listed, and nobody was contacted.

If you review quotes for a living and publish a price, email mackenzie@mackenziebowes.com and we'll add you. If you have quotes on your desk right now, that's the same address.
