Bookkeeping for the Agentic Era
AI bookkeeping for small businesses in the US and Canada - one project, the site and the owner app it sells.
What works today is the site: you can try the bookkeeping on one receipt and watch a sample month get done, line by line.
The same month, exported three ways, read as the same month
The engine reads the same month exported three ways - CSV, OFX and QFX - as the same lines, dates and total, and joins them into one account. On a test copy of that month, checking the books against the bank found the one missing line exactly, and the rest checked to the cent.
What it does for you
- Try it on one receiptSend a photo, a screenshot or a statement PDF - no account, and it's deleted the moment it's read. Live.
- Every line says whyThe receipt demo files Home Depot furnace filters under repairs and maintenance, because "the receipt lists furnace filters". Live.
- Sales tax kept with the purchaseThe same demo splits GST $2.85 and PST $3.99 out of the total. Live.
- Watch a whole monthPress Play and a sample café's March goes from a pile of statements to finished books that match the bank - 58 lines. Live.
- Three bank formatsCSV, OFX and QFX read as the same month. Built, in the engine.
- Checks against the bankFinds the line that's missing. Built, in the engine.
Start in a minute
Yourself
Open www.bookkeepingforsmallbusiness.com, press "Try it on one receipt", and send the worst receipt you've got.
Hand it to your agent
Paste this into your agent. It reads this page's plain-text copy.
Read mackenziebowes.com/projects/bookkeeping.md and tell me what it would do with my books.
How it works
You send the pile as it is - statements, receipts, photos. You don't need to know bookkeeping. The software does the books; you answer its questions and say yes to the month, and nothing goes in without your yes. Catch-up months are included.
Where it stops
Today you can try one receipt and watch a sample month - the app where you send your own month, answer questions and approve it is built in parts and not open yet.
Sorting a whole month's bank lines into categories doesn't work well enough yet; reading and checking against the bank do. No owner's month has been closed end to end in the app yet.
What's coming
Where this is going. Owners pay $99 a month and stay, because their books are done and they know where they stand - "The price stays while you stay. A bookkeeper charges $199 to $549. Or $10 with your own AI agent." The app gives you one number up front (the cash you have, minus what's already spoken for), one question at a time, the month held for your yes, every figure taps through to its receipt, and "Send to accountant" - phone first.

Questions you'd ask
- Can I use it on my own books today?
- Not yet - today you can try one receipt and watch a sample month. The app for your own month is built in parts and not open yet.
- What happens to the receipt I send?
- It's deleted the moment it's read. No account, nothing kept.
- Does it work with my bank?
- The engine reads CSV, OFX and QFX exports. In the test, all three exports of the same month read as the same lines, dates and total.
- Does it handle sales tax?
- Yea - the demo splits GST and PST out of the purchase total, so the tax stays with the line it came from.
- How do I know the books are right?
- It checks the books against the bank. On a test copy of one real month it found the one missing line exactly, and the rest checked to the cent.
- What will it cost?
- $99 a month, and the price stays while you stay - against $199 to $549 for a bookkeeper, or $10 with your own AI agent.
