Every visit, from a person or an agent
Running since 2026-10-08.
- When it happens: A person or an agent asks this site for a page or a file.
- What is taken: Your IP address; your browser's user agent; the address of the page; and your country, worked out from your IP address.
- Who handles it: Cloudflare. Its own policy: Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Who else gets it: Nobody else.
- Why: Cloudflare hosts the site, so it handles every request: it sends the page and blocks attacks.
- On what basis: Legitimate interest: keeping the site online and safe.
- How long it is kept: Cloudflare decides how long. Read its policy.
- Where: Cloudflare decides where. Read its policy.
- What your browser does: Your browser contacts only this site.
- What it stores on your device: Nothing.
Your place in a lesson
Running since 2026-10-15.
- When it happens: You open a lesson.
- What is taken: Nothing about you.
- Who handles it: Your own browser. The data never leaves your device.
- Who else gets it: Nobody else.
- Why: When you open a lesson, your own browser remembers which steps you ticked and which step you were on, so you can pick it up later. It is never sent anywhere.
- On what basis: Legitimate interest: letting you come back to a lesson where you left it.
- How long it is kept: Until you clear this site's data in your browser.
- Where: Your own device.
- What your browser does: Your browser contacts only this site.
- What it stores on your device: Local storage: lesson:/lessons/*.
Email you send me
Running since 2026-03-06.
- When it happens: You send an email to the address above.
- What is taken: Your email address and what you write.
- Who handles it: Google Workspace. Its own policy: Google Workspace privacy policy.
- Who else gets it: Nobody else.
- Why: I read your message and answer it. I don't add you to a list.
- On what basis: Legitimate interest: answering people who write to me.
- How long it is kept: Until you ask me to delete it, or I do.
- Where: Google Workspace decides where. Read its policy.
- What your browser does: Your browser contacts nothing because of this flow.
- What it stores on your device: Nothing.
Search engine reports
Running since 2026-10-14.
- When it happens: You search and this site appears in the results.
- What is taken: Counts of search queries, with no visitor identity.
- Who handles it: Google Search Console. Its own policy: Google Search Console privacy policy.
- Who else gets it: Bing Webmaster Tools (the same report for searches on Bing).
- Why: Google and Bing tell me how often the site appeared in their results, and for which searches. The reports are totals; they don't say who searched.
- On what basis: Legitimate interest: knowing whether people can find the site.
- How long it is kept: Google Search Console decides how long. Read its policy.
- Where: Google Search Console decides where. Read its policy.
- What your browser does: Your browser contacts nothing because of this flow.
- What it stores on your device: Nothing.
My own Google accounts, read by my tools
Running since 2026-10-14.
- When it happens: No visitor starts this. It's about my own accounts.
- What is taken: My own Search Console and Google Ads data.
- Who handles it: Google APIs. Its own policy: Google APIs privacy policy.
- Who else gets it: Nobody else.
- Why: Tools on my own computer read this site's Search Console reports and my Google Ads keyword data through Google's APIs. They read only my accounts, never a visitor's Google data, and share nothing.
- On what basis: Legitimate interest: researching what people search for.
- How long it is kept: Until the research no longer needs it.
- Where: Canada.
- What your browser does: Your browser contacts nothing because of this flow.
- What it stores on your device: Nothing.
Visit measurement (Kokumi)
Planned. Announced on 2026-10-15. It is not running yet, and this flow collects nothing so far.
- When it happens: A page is viewed.
- What is taken: Your IP address; your browser's user agent; the address of the page; the page you came from; the network and company your IP address belongs to; your city, worked out from your IP address; a fingerprint of your device, made from GPU timing, canvas, WebGL, audio, fonts and screen; how long you stay on a page and how far you scroll; how fast a page loads and responds on your device; which version of a page you were shown in an experiment; and which visit led you to email me.
- Left out for some visitors: If you visit from the EU, the EEA or the UK, this flow does not take a fingerprint of your device, made from GPU timing, canvas, WebGL, audio, fonts and screen.
- Who handles it: Run by me on Cloudflare, at www.mackenziebowes.com. It is kept in a place Cloudflare decides (its policy).
- Who else gets it: Nobody else.
- Why: I measure which pages and experiments work for people and agents, and which visits lead to a conversation.
- On what basis: Legitimate interest: learning what works on the site and which visits lead to a conversation.
- How long it is kept: Until you ask me to delete it, or I do.
- Where: Cloudflare decides where. Read its policy.
- What your browser does: Your browser contacts only this site.
- What it stores on your device: Nothing.
What you can ask for
You can ask to see what is held about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Email mackenzie@mackenziebowes.com. There is no form and no account.
If you are an agent
A request from an agent is a request like any other. It leaves what the flows above list for that trigger, and nothing more. A person's request leaves the same.
Copies for agents
This page also exists as markdown and as JSON-LD, which uses W3C Data Privacy Vocabulary terms. The page, its markdown copy and its JSON copy are all built from one list, so they say the same thing.
