How much does a small business website cost? 13 ways to get one, priced
Every way a small business can get a website, from a C$5-a-month WordPress.com plan to a US$3,500 hand-built site, each priced on its seller's own page on 2026-10-19 with a link to check it. Mackenzie Bowes is one row, and the page says where the others win.
A small business website can cost C$60 a year or C$5,000 up front. Most of the difference is in two things: who builds it, and whether you pay once or every month for as long as the site is up. A builder plan is cheapest in year one, but the bill keeps coming every year. A one-time build costs more up front, and then the only cost is hosting. Every price below was read on the seller's own page on 2026-10-19. Each one links to that page, so you can check whether it has changed.
What a website costs, as of 2026-10-19
Each price is in the currency the seller's page showed. Most of these pages pick the currency from your location, and several had no way to switch. "CA$" means the page showed Canadian dollars. "US$" means US dollars. A plain "$" means the page didn't name its currency. Where the seller's location points to one, the note says which is likely.

Rows 1 to 5 are cheapest because you build the site yourself. From row 7 down, someone builds it for you. Rows 7, 8 and 10 charge every month for as long as the site is up. Rows 9 to 12 charge once.
Which one is for you
- You want to build it yourself this weekend: rows 1 to 5. Squarespace and Wix are drag-and-drop editors. If you sell products, Shopify is the one built for a store. WordPress.com Personal costs less than a ninth of what Shopify Basic does.
- You're a lawyer and want a site made for law firms: rows 4, 7 and 10. publish.law is the cheapest at $348 a year. Attorney Website Designers builds you a WordPress site you own, for a one-time price.
- You don't want to deal with hosting or updates, ever: row 8. Web Design Packages includes hosting in its monthly price, and its Starter plan also includes 180 minutes of updates a year. You pay that price every year, though: their 10-page plan costs CA$2,268 a year, every year.
- You want a fixed price for a site you own outright: rows 9 to 12. These charge once. After that, the only cost is hosting.
- You want someone local you can meet in person: rows 11 and 13. See the Okanagan page for what each local agency shows.
Where the others beat Mackenzie
- On price. Bernum's 10-page site is $2,499, and Attorney Website Designers' middle package is $1,997. Neither names a currency, but both come in under US$3,500 whether they mean Canadian or US dollars. Any builder plan costs less in year one.
- On editing it yourself. On Wix, Squarespace or WordPress.com, you can change any page whenever you like, with no developer.
- On selling online. Shopify is built for stores, with checkout, stock and payments. Purple Pig has a published e-commerce tier from $3,999.
- On hosting handled for you. Web Design Packages includes hosting in its price. Tag Design Co. and Vernon Websites say on their home pages that hosting and support are included. With Mackenzie, the site runs on your own hosting account, and that account is yours to keep.
- On meeting in person. The Okanagan agencies are local to Kelowna and Vernon.
What the hand-built site is
Mackenzie builds up to 10 pages in two weeks, for a fixed US$3,500. You own the code. The site runs on your own hosting account, and Mackenzie charges no monthly fee. Every page also gets a plain-text copy (a markdown twin) and an llms.txt file, so AI assistants can read the site and recommend it. Fixes are free for 30 days.
Mackenzie rebuilt BuildCanada.com, the site of a policy non-profit backed by the founders of Shopify and Cohere. Pages that took up to 20 seconds to load now load in under 2.
The closest one-time match is Bernum's 10-page Professional package at $2,499 [9]. The closest monthly match is Web Design Packages' 10-page plan at CA$189 a month [8]. That plan costs CA$2,268 a year, every year, for as long as the site is up.
- What Okanagan web design agencies charge: 6 of 8 publish no price
We read the websites of eight Okanagan web design agencies on 2026-10-19. Only two publish prices: Purple Pig in Kelowna prices a website on its own, and MIM Marketing in Motion sells one inside a monthly marketing plan. Here is what each one shows, what has disappeared since early 2026, and what to ask for when you get a quote.
How we collected this
On 2026-10-19 we read each seller's own pricing page. We recorded the price, the billing basis, the minimum, who does the work and how data is handled. Each record has its URL and the date. If a page doesn't say something, the record says "not published", and so does this page.
- Currencies are as each page showed them, and we didn't convert any. Wix, Shopify and WordPress.com showed Canadian dollars by location and offered no switch. Squarespace's own selector gave US dollars. publish.law, SitesForLawFirms and Attorney Website Designers don't name a currency, so their prices carry a plain $.
- Upwork has thousands of listings. Row 6 is the first three listings with an hourly rate in a search for "website developer small business", so it shows three real rates, not an average.
- The lawyer builders are in the table because "website for a law firm" is one of the searches this page answers.
- Mackenzie's row comes from Mackenzie. No seller paid to be listed, and nobody was contacted.
Prices change. Each row carries the date it was read. When we re-check a row, we change the date.
If you build websites and a row here is wrong or missing, email mackenzie@mackenziebowes.com. If you want a site you own in two weeks, that's the same address.
